Timeline
2006 - Fall. Man on camera shoots, scenes shot in the countryside,
and at our church using sets. We receive a tax return and a gift from
family that make a trip home for Christmas possible.
2006 - July. We get a dog from the Spanish pound. We name her Dulcinea
after a character in the novel Don Quixote. Author Miguel Cervantes
was born in our city 400 years ago.
2006 - June. A week in Holland shooting scenes for the Path of Jesus
and other potential New Testament scenes. Four days of driving - as
far as KC to DC, long hours, hotel rooms. Great hard work.
2006 - April. First production days we are here for. Shooting segments
for the Path of Jesus, a continuation in the story of Bible stories.
How wonderful to be doing what we feel God called us to do...so many
months ago.
2006 - February. Complications with the home we've rented. A frenzied
week ends with keys to the duplex (half of it). A bank guarantee is
asked for tying up half of our cash budget raised for other purposes.
2006 - January. Graduate from language school. Whew!
2005 - December. We go to Madrid to find a house, do more identity
card processing, and celebrate a Christmas party with the IMM staff.
Amazingly we find a duplex and put down a deposit.
2005 - September. Our container arrives. Another trip to Madrid to
unload our belongings and bring some things back to language school.
Study hard!
2005 - August - go to Madrid for identity card process, continue at
school
2005 - July 10 start language school.
2005 - July 6. Departure. Finally.
2005 - May. We have been in 9 states, driven well over 50,000 miles,
visited more than 150 churches. We're packing and waiting to hear from
the Consulate in Chicago about the visa.
2005 - April. A document we have been waiting for arrives, so our visa
can go forward. We rush the papers to the Consulate in Chicago. (See
the journal for more on this.)
2004 - December. We have raised 20 percent of our budget since September.
Once again, God and prayer have made a difference.
2004 - September. Time is running out for us to raise funds. We ask
for special prayer and start contacting churches we have visited in
the past year to see if their circumstances have changed. We ask them
to pray over our finances.
2004 - July. A steel cattle trough blows out of a truck in front of
us. We have just changed lanes or it would have hit us. God is with
us.
2004 - February. We find out we are getting money back on taxes. That
never happens!
2003 - December. Driving home from a sectinal meeting, an ice storm
has coated the roads. We spin out on I-70 and bang into the cement median.
We aren't hurt and the car is fine. Prayer works!
2003 - August. We start traveling and fund raising full time. The journey
is slow and sometimes frustrating, but strangely rewarding knowing we
are where we are suppose to be and doing all we can.
2003 - August. On a Sunday morning, our home fills with the smell of
smoke and it's time to leave for a church service where we will share.
We find the source of the problem and are on time for church. We realize
that people are praying for us and how much we need it.
2003 - June through July. We are at Candidate School and School of
Missions in Springfield, Missouri. We hear IMM is moving to Spain
2003 - April. We are approved. We notify friends and begin trying to
introduce ourselves to pastors to start fund raising
2003 - March. We go for a 10 day interview at Assemblies of God World
Missions. Will they accept us as missionaries? This is a road we know
God has called us to. The outcome is up to Him.
2002- February. Police raid the building at International Media Ministries
in Belgium, taking people away for deportation. A visa law was reinterpreted
without warning. The ministry is not allowed to reopen. For many months,
we aren't sure what we will do or if IMM will continue to exist, but
we've already said yes to God.
2002 - January. We lay down our resistance, realizing God is asking
us to take the plunge and become missionaries heading back to International
Media Ministries. This year we will be interviewed, fill out applications,
take psychological tests and be challenged to become certified ministers.
2001- November. We go on a short term missions trip to Ireland. We
haven't told anyone how God is dealing with us. We keep asking, "Where
should we go?" We see the smouldering embers of the Twin Towers
when we land in New York.
2001 - Summer. God speaks through other missionaries - confirming that
He wants us to give our job skills to the mission field. Guess what?
It's been 7 years!
2000 - September, Kerry goes on a short term missions trip to China.
1995 - Return home and tell God in 5-7 years we will re-evaluate where
missions fits in our lives. We are too chicken to become missionaries.
In the meantime, we get jobs, buy a house and a dog, and learn new media
skills.
1993-1995 - We work on TV programming at International Media Ministries
in Brussels, Belgium
1992 - We wait all year for a visa to Belgium
1991 - God pokes us in the chest at church to volunteer our media skills
